Posted 22 Jul 2010 - 7 Gratefully received comments
This is my entry for the Design Forums Brand competition.
The Brief is to create the branding for a contemporary restaurant called ‘The Drunken Goose’. You can read the full brief here in the DF brand competition thread.
The competition is open for entries until 15 August 2010. They will then be judged by Graham Smith of im just creative.
So here is the sum of my efforts:
Logo

The idea behind the logo is of a flock of geese flying south, with the drunken goose flying in the wrong direction.

I'm a freelance graphic designer living and working in Suffolk.
I've been using Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign & Quark Xpress since 1999 but I've been using pens, pencils, paper and most importantly my imagination for a lot longer. I'm always looking for new clients to work with and interesting projects to work on.

Nice work Ken. The applications look great too (the colours are beautiful) and everything has a strong cohesive look. All the best with the competition!

Thanks Claire.
I have become quite attached to the colours too.

Great work mate!
Just a little 2 cents of mine here if you don’t mind, i like the idea of “a flock of geese flying south, with the drunken goose flying in the wrong direction.” but instead of “wrong direction” wouldn’t it be more presentable with “opposite direction”? as to better highlight on the innovative presence by the chef? like a maverick?
how’s that sounds? (well i dunno if this is important or not but i thought if it was to present it to a client with a note or some description, shouldn’t we carefully choose the word?)
Anyway, thanks for your advice in DF! I’m looking forward for more! See ya!

Thanks Duncan
I like the spin you’ve put on my explanation of the logo idea. If I was verbally presenting it to a client your suggestion would be ideal. You’ve seen another layer to things than I had previously considered!
I’ve seen your efforts over on DF and it’s coming together very nicely, so best of luck to you too.

Lovely work Ken, really nice use of colour and typography. I wish I had the time to enter the comp but I dont think I would do it justice and I dont want to enter something sub-standard. I love your idea though and I cant wait to see all the entries.

Cheers Dave,
The standard of entries looks to be excellent so far. I’m enjoying all the work too.
Shame you won’t have time for a go at it but it’s no good entering something you don’t believe in.
I’m sure another comp won’t be far around the corner!
