Posted 30 Jul 2009 - 3 Gratefully received comments
Design Forums have carried on from the success of their first competition by launching a new one! This time the challenge is to come up with a book cover design.

The Brief:
To design a book jacket cover for one of the selection:
1. Animal Farm by George Orwell
2. To kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
3. Macbeth by William Shakespeare
4. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis
5. The Iron Man by Ted Hughes
The publisher (Penguin) is keen to give the title a new lease of life with a striking. modern design to appeal to a new audience.
Entries: Covers can be typography, image manipulation, illustration, photography. The style is your choice. You can enter as many times and as many book covers as you like. Please try and place your cover entry onto the supplies book pix.
Rationale: A brief rationale to your design is required to explain the entry, no more than 60 words max.
Entry Format & Size: All entries must be 1500px x 900px, consisting of 670×900 for back cover and 670×900 for front cover then 160×900 for the spine (view the book template). In addition to the concept if you can supply an image manipulation of the design on the book image this would be preferred.

Here is my entry:

I’m a sucker for beautiful book covers, I’ve lost count of how many books I’ve bought because of the cover and never read. That was my aim for this cover, to make the book a beautiful object. I’ve always wanted to work in this sort of style too, and it compliments the subject matter perfectly. Animal Farm is an important book, so I hope this cover would make someone pick it up that had never thought of reading it before.

Excellent entry Ken, I think you’ve given yourself a great chance at keeping the DF Contest Crown!!
