One of the problems working as a solitary freelancer is the lack of input from others. We all work in our own ways, and have our own ideas on how something should look. If this goes on for too long you run the risk of churning out the same sort of work over and over again. Without the thoughts and opinions of others it is a lot more difficult to grow as a designer or artist.
How critical is criticism?

Arkham Asylum – Book Review #2
Posted 22 Aug 2009 - No Comments - leave yours now!
This is my second book review, I try to highlight books that have stuck with me for years and have inspired and delighted me countless times.
Some of the best sources of inspiration are the most unexpected. The book I’m writing about is in fact a comic book, some people might call it a graphic novel, but I’ve always balked at that label. It has always felt like an attempt to make comics sound more literary, when there is no need to do that at all. There is as much variety and depth in comic books as there is in novels or movies. Arkham Asylum, Written by: Grant Morrison, Artwork by: Dave McKean. Publisher: DC Comics, publication date: 1989.

I’ve been aware of (and a user of) twitter for some time now and have a pretty empty looking home page on my twitter account. As much as I’ve tried, I’ve never really got into twitter and at times have struggled to see the point… especially when text updates stopped in the UK.
For those of you who were never aware of the SMS updates… until around a year ago twitter would text you the updates of those you follow free of charge! Obviously you had to be a bit pickier on those you received updates from in order to stop your phone becoming like a vibrator with no off switch.
In fact twitter has always been very focused around mobile updates – which I guess is in part, where the 140 character limit comes from.
It’s that focus on mobile phones that became a big problem solver for me last week!

I'm a freelance graphic designer living and working in Suffolk.
I've been using Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign & Quark Xpress since 1999 but I've been using pens, pencils, paper and most importantly my imagination for a lot longer. I'm always looking for new clients to work with and interesting projects to work on.
